Apex Systems is hiring for a RHEL Systems Engineer for one of our defense clients in the Fort Worth, TX area. Candidates must be able to obtain and/or maintain a DoD SECRET security clearance as a condition and continuation of employment.

Position Summary

The Systems Engineer – IT will support a mixed-environment enterprise consisting of RHEL, Solaris, and Windows systems within a highly controlled, security-focused environment. This role involves systems administration, automation, virtualization, and troubleshooting across multiple platforms. The engineer will collaborate with internal teams to maintain system reliability, implement modernization efforts, and support mission-critical operations.

Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support RHEL 7/8/9 systems, including patching, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
• Manage Windows 10/11 and Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and core services
• Develop and maintain automation workflows using Ansible/YAML
• Support virtualization infrastructure using VMware vCenter 8 and VMware Workstation
• Assist with configuration management, system hardening, and compliance standards
• Troubleshoot system, network, and application issues across Linux, Windows, and virtualization layers
• Collaborate with engineering teams on deployments, upgrades, testing, and documentation
• Maintain system reliability in an operational, security-sensitive environment
• Support legacy systems as required (Solaris 10, older VMware versions, etc.)

Required Qualifications

• Active DoD Secret clearance
• Active CompTIA Security+ Certification (mandatory)
• Linux Administration: RHEL 7+ (RHEL 8–9 strongly preferred)
• Windows Administration:
  Windows 10/11 and Windows Server (Active Directory, DNS, DHCP)
• Automation & IaC:
  Hands‑on experience with Ansible, YAML, and related tooling
• Virtualization: VMware vCenter 8 and VMware Workstation experience

Preferred Qualifications

• Solaris 10 Administration (OJT acceptable due to legacy nature)
• Containerization:
  Docker and/or Podman
• Database
  
  Experience:
  
  Oracle SQL and/or PostgreSQL
• Red Hat Satellite Server (content management, patching, lifecycle management)
