Overview
The Children s Surgery Registrar is responsible for complete and accurate data collection and maintenance of records for all patients who meet inclusion criteria for the Children s Surgery Registry. Standards for data collection are based on Cook Children s Medical Center policies and procedures and the American College of Surgeons Optimal Resources for Children s Surgical Care. The Registrar abstracts and enters data into the Surgery Registry accurately, generates reports, and performs routine system maintenance.
The Registrar uploads data as required and follows up on data accuracy. The Registrar coordinates the quality review of abstracts entered into the registry. Responsibilities also include assisting with the annual report, conducting data analyses and reports, and coordinating and preparing for surveys by the American College of Surgeons. This position requires a background in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, data analysis and collection, and relies heavily on medical chart reviews.

Education- Must have high school diploma or equivalent.
- 2 years of experience with medical records reviewing and abstracting preferred.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, and the surgical process is essential.
- Computer skills essential including Excel and Word.
- Experience with Epic and Meditech preferred.
- Experience with Red Cap a plus.
- Healthcare Provider BLS or Friends and Family CPR with AED Education.
