Department SummaryThe Center for Human Identification (CHI) is an accredited forensic laboratory located on the campus of UNT Health at Fort Worth. With funding from the state of Texas and various Federal Government agencies, CHI supports DNA testing, forensic genetic genealogy, anthropological examinations, CODIS operations, forensic training, and cutting‑edge research and development initiatives. CHI also manages the Texas Missing Persons DNA Database.
Position OverviewThe CODIS Administrator is the system administrator of the laboratory's CODIS network and is responsible for the security of DNA profile data stored within CODIS.
The CODIS Administrator serves as the central point of contact in the laboratory for CODIS and as the gatekeeper for DNA records entered into CODIS. This position is responsible for the technical operations of the CODIS Unit and supervises the Alternate CODIS Administrator.
Minimum QualificationsGraduate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or related field, and five (5) years of forensic DNA laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of FBI QAS document
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel
- Graduate degree in Biology, Chemistry, Forensic Science or a related field, and five (5) years of CODIS experience in a NDIS participating forensic DNA laboratory as a currently or previously qualified analyst with documented mixture interpretation training.
- Previous mtDNA competency is required.
- Supervisory experience preferred, but not required.
- Administer and approve CODIS computer training for laboratory staff.
- Serve as the system administrator of the local CODIS network (includes forensic casework and missing persons' database samples).
- Oversee the quality of data entered into the local CODIS database. Assure that the quality of data within CODIS is in accordance with state and/or federal law and NDIS operational procedures.
- Participate in CHI's quality management system through internal audits, management reviews, quality working group meetings.
- Direct supervision of the CODIS Unit, including performance evaluations, leave approvals, disciplinary actions/PIPs/other personal issues, hiring for new positions, assessing qualifications of new CODIS Unit personnel.
