About Us

The City of Alvarado, a vibrant and growing community at the crossroads of I-35 and Highway 67 just south of Fort Worth, is seeking an experienced and dynamic Assistant Fire Chief to join our leadership team. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a department that serves with dedication, integrity, and a strong commitment to the safety and well-being of our residents.

Position

Summary

Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Assistant Fire Chief assists in planning, directing, and coordinating the activities and operations of the Fire Department, including fire suppression, prevention, emergency medical services, and training. This role serves as a key leader in guiding the department’s mission, overseeing personnel, managing budgets, and ensuring the delivery of exceptional public safety services to our growing city.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements
  • Associate’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university in fire science, public administration, emergency management, or a closely related field.
  • Current certifications must include:
    • Master Firefighter
    • Master Instructor
    • Fire Officer II (or higher)
    • Incident Commander
  • Valid Texas Class B Driver’s License, with a driving record that meets City policy requirements.
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of:
    • Applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, codes, and standards governing fire services, emergency medical care, personnel administration, and hazardous materials.
    • Fire suppression operations, pre-hospital emergency medical services, and Community Risk Reduction programs consistent with certification and departmental standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Exercise sound judgment, make competent decisions under pressure, and maintain confidentiality related to personnel matters, criminal investigations, and sensitive information.
    • Maintain physical condition appropriate to the essential functions of the position.
