Position: Assistant Technician, Design Support

WSP is currently initiating a search for an Assistant Technician, Design Support for our Fort Worth, Texas office. Be involved in projects with our Power Delivery Substation Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our clients’ objectives and solves their challenges.

The Assistant Technician, Design Support will share responsibility with the rest of the department to produce a product consistent with WSP's mission statement and our culture. They are expected to support the department in achieving the goals of the department, maintain WSP's high-quality standards, promote internal teamwork and meet the needs of our clients.

Your Impact
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision‑making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
  • The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of transmission line design for new lines, relocations, upgrades, and fiber optic additions.
  • The position entails drafting and design opportunities on substation projects that include physical and civil layout drawings as well as schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for learning, understanding, and implementing CAD knowledge; learning client standards, practices, and procedures to ensure that work produced conforms to the client's standards and expectations; being responsible for knowing and following WSP’s standards, procedures, and processes; collaborating on design issues; and seeking guidance from those with more experience.
Who You Are

Required Qualifications
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Associates/technical degree in an accredited drafting program, or sufficient industry experience.
  • 1-3 years of AutoCAD and/or Micro Station experience.
  • Strong command of the English language with good written and oral communication skills in order to work effectively with other team members.
  • Legally authorized to work permanently in the U.S. without the need for work sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Drafting experience with AutoCAD and/or Micro Station, preferably in an engineering work environment.
  • Experience with a 3D CAD system.
  • Knowledge of substation electrical schematics and wiring diagrams, and/or substation physical/civil drawings.
  • Experience working with scaled drawings.
  • Working knowledge of survey coordinate systems a plus.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Experience with File Management Systems a plus.
  • Strong background in mathematics.
  • Reliable, detail‑oriented self‑starter who takes ownership of assigned tasks.
