The Specifications and Materials Practice Leader is responsible for Parkhill's firmwide specifications and materials practice, ensuring consistent, high-quality standards across projects. This role oversees specifications, materials research, and project manual development while guiding and developing the Specifications and Materials team. The Practice Leader collaborates with project teams and industry partners to support performance, sustainability, and cost-effective design solutions. This is a full-time, exempt position paid on a salary basis.

Parkhill is one of the largest architectural and engineering firms in the Southwest with
14offices located throughout Texas, New Mexico, and Oklahoma.

Responsibilities
    Provide firmwide leadership for specifications standards, materials research and selection, and project manual development.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the Specifications & Materials team, establishing consistent processes and best practices.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of the firm's master specifications, ensuring alignment with codes, regulations, industry standards, and client requirements.
  • Direct specifications and project manual production process, including project specific customization, staffing assignments, and integration with project workflows.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and project teams to support design intent, performance goals, sustainability objectives, and budget constraints.
  • Research, evaluate, and guide material decisions based on performance, durability, aesthetics, availability, cost, and environmental impact.
  • Identify and manage risks related to material performance, quality, and regulatory compliance.
  • Maintain strategic relationships with manufacturers and vendors, supporting product education and material resources.
  • Stay informed on material costs, emerging technologies, and industry trends, advancing innovation and continuous improvement across the practice.
  • Ensure accurate documentation of specifications, material approvals, changes, and related reporting.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
  • 7-10 years of experience in specification writing, materials management, or construction project coordination within the architecture and engineering industry.
  • Deep understanding of building materials, construction techniques, codes, and regulations. Familiarity with sustainable materials and practices.
  • Strong knowledge of materials, building systems, and relevant codes (e.g., ASTM, ISO, LEED)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to present complex technical information to clients, contractors, and internal teams clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership, mentoring, and team-building abilities, with experience leading cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • LEED Accreditation or other sustainability certifications.
  • Familiarity with advanced software tools for material selection and project management.
  • Expertise in sustainable materials, green building standards, and energy-efficient design.
