Position: Market Leader - District Energy Services - OnSite Energy & Power (Multiple Locations)

Description

The Market Leader for the Global Facilities (GFS) OnSite Energy & Power business will be responsible for delivering growth and innovation for the district energy services market. This individual will be responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive business strategy to advance district energy and decarbonization projects for clients such as municipalities, universities, healthcare campuses and large-scale commercial developments. The Market Leader will build and maintain strong client relationships, identify and pursue new business opportunities, collaborate with other business lanes and global practices and position Burns & McDonnell as a leading provider of district energy solutions.

This role requires a deep understanding of district energy solutions and applications, addressing project challenges faced by clients and a passion for developing and delivering innovative project solutions.

  • Lead business development activities across the OnSite energy sector, with a specific focus on district energy and decarbonization applications. Coordinate team activities for timely responses for proposals, submittals and presentations.

  • Demonstrate technical expertise and strong understanding of district energy solutions and technologies, including chilled water, steam and hot water production, thermal distribution, combined heat and power (CHP) as well as decarbonization strategies. Also possess a firm market understanding of the development and varying project delivery models for deploying large district and community energy systems.

  • Provide insight and ability to analyze market trends, identify key opportunities and develop and execute a strategic business plan to achieve market growth targets. This includes experience with market analysis, competitive intelligence and strategic planning.

  • Support the execution of feasibility studies, technology evaluations, planning efforts, designs and construction approaches as required to support client projects or initiatives. Work closely with Department and Section Managers to identify and establish resources and teams for project delivery.

  • Deliver a client-centric approach, with the ability to build and maintain long‑term relationships with key clients across various industries, including energy service providers, industrial facilities, commercial, healthcare and higher education institutions.

  • Collaborate with OnSite leadership for market strategy, goals, objectives and budgets for addressing the district energy market.

  • Provide technical leadership and representation of the company through active participation in conferences and technical seminars, including activities such as writing papers, delivering presentations and/or supporting conference marketing initiatives and events.

  • Collaborate with the Business Development professionals from other GFS Lanes and Global Practices to facilitate effective cross‑selling.

  • Mentor project staff by providing guidance, instructions and expert level technical advice.

  • Work with OnSite Leadership and National Technical Leads to recruit / train employees crucial to the district energy market.

  • Serve as principal client contact when necessary.

  • Supervise assigned team members.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in related field and 7 years related professional experience.

  • Demonstrated technical ability internally and externally.

  • Proven leadership in developing and implementing vision that has brought positive impact.

  • Demonstrated excellent written & verbal communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and analytical and problem‑solving skills.

  • Ability to influence, lead, and manage change thoughtfully and positively.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Ability to handle difficult situations with tact, poise, and discernment.

  • Proven collaboration, facilitation, and organization problem solving skills in previous roles.

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License required.

Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, with minimum of 10 years related experience in design engineering or consulting.

This job posting will remain open a minimum of 72 hours and on an ongoing basis until filled.
