Highway/Roadway Design Project Engineer

What You Will Do

GFT is seeking a Highway/Roadway Design Project Engineer to join our Transportation group in Fort Worth, TX. This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Fort Worth office. Working on the roadway team offers opportunities to engage in transformative projects that enhance transportation infrastructure and improve community connectivity. Whether working on highways and bridges or traffic engineering, our team excels in resilient, sustainable design and construction, delivering innovative solutions that address the complexities of modern multimodal roadway systems and ensure safe, efficient, and reliable travel for all.

Responsibilities
  • Perform engineering design tasks for roadway projects from concept development to final design, including construction support.
  • Develop plans, specifications, cost estimates, reports, and prepare final bid packages.
  • Establish working relationships and contacts with client technical staff and project managers.
  • Provide engineering design services on traditional design‑bid‑build projects and design‑build highway projects.
  • Manage and mentor junior engineers on project assignments.
  • Coordinate design activities and meetings between design staff, subconsultants, and client managers.
  • Coordinate planning, staffing, scheduling, budget management, and quality control of subconsultants and internal staff.
  • Participate in project decisions regarding technical approaches, cost and scheduling performance.
  • Lead projects and complete tasks within schedule and budget with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure project quality through QA/QC.
  • Assist project managers with various supporting tasks.
What You’ll Bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license in Texas.
  • 6–10 years of engineering experience with broad knowledge of transportation design and strong technical skills in highway design.
  • Proficient in Micro Station, Open Roads, and Microsoft Office.
  • TXDOT design experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with a collaborative, team‑oriented mindset.
