Transportation Engineer III or IV – Bridge Section (2600504)

The Texas Department of Transportation’s Fort Worth District is seeking a Bridge Engineer to join our dedicated team in the Bridge Section. , depending on business need and applicants' qualifications.

Position Information

Salary range:
Minimum $76,530.00 – Maximum $ per year.

Pay Basis:
Yearly. FLSA Status:
Exempt.

Work Locations:
Ft Worth District Headquarters, 2501 Southwest Loop 820, Fort Worth 76133.

Travel:
Yes, 5% of the time. Shift: Day. Location Flexibility:
Onsite.

Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Managers to establish realistic and achievable schedule baselines for complex projects.
  • Design highly complex bridge projects and perform specialized design.
  • Develop and review engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
  • Review shop drawings, plans, specifications, estimates, supplemental agreements and change order requests.
  • Perform other job responsibilities as assigned.
  • Perform highly advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts.
  • Serve as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
  • Develop specifications for special bridge design details and projects.
  • Perform highly complex structural analysis of bridge designs.
  • Review and check special designs and solutions for unique structural problems.
Minimum Qualifications Education

Bachelor’s Degree in engineering or related science. A higher degree accepted by TX PELS.

Experience

6 years of engineering, transportation engineering, or related engineering experience (full‑time or prorated part‑time). Related graduate‑level education may be substituted for experience on a year‑per‑year basis. 7 years of experience may also satisfy the minimum qualifications under the same substitution rule.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.

Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.). Professional engineers licensed in another state must meet Texas license requirements, obtain a Texas license within six (6) months of hire, and sign an agreement as a condition of employment.

  • Geometric design relationships to traffic operations, maintenance and construction.
  • Foundation analysis programs.
  • Fatigue and fracture mechanics.
  • Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.

Design and plan preparation methods and requirements.

  • Structural engineering terminology, principles, practices and methods and the application of engineering theory.
