The Avionics Technician is responsible for installations, removals, and troubleshooting of avionics systems on a variety of fixed-wing and rotor-wing aircraft in our customer’s fleet. This includes system troubleshooting on integrated systems using wiring diagrams and installation drawings, and ensuring proper operation and functionality of newly installed equipment or modifications. Work is performed under minimal supervision with guidance from the Avionics Department Lead Mechanic or the Director of Maintenance of the Certified Repair Station.
Responsibilities- Collect and maintain electronic databases for electronic downloads.
- Coordinate and distribute downloaded electronic media.
- Troubleshoot avionics/electronic malfunctions with Customers and other technicians, and provide information for corrective action.
- Contact OEMs, technical representatives, and suppliers for technical assistance.
- Assist with coordinating preventive maintenance schedules.
- Read, interpret, and comply with technical data including Service Instructions, Bulletins, and Airworthiness Directives as directed by the OEM or Airworthiness Authority.
- Perform Avionics system and component pre/post maintenance operational checks and in-flight checks as required.
- Perform scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and inspections per manufacturer and FAA guidelines.
- Repair or replace defective components.
- Assist in final checkout of new installations or modifications to aircraft avionic systems and components.
- Record maintenance actions on aircraft, engine, and component records and applicable documentation per FAA and repair station requirements.
- Be flexible with work shifts, including mission support outside normal hours, and travel as required to support mission requirements.
- Travel up to 20% frequently to support aircraft at field sites and deployments.
- Assist with maintenance inspection tasks as required in the repair station.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED. Two-year technical training, military experience, or equivalent on-the-job training.
- A valid FCC License, Airframe certificate, or Airframe & Powerplant certificate from the FAA is preferred.
- Five years of avionics troubleshooting experience on equipment typical of general aviation aircraft (e.g., Garmin, Bendix King, Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Technisonic Radios or similar).
- Experience performing 14 CFR Part 91.411 & 91.413 checks and recertification of altimeters/encoding and transponders or military equivalents.
- Camera and ISR system install/troubleshooting experience is highly desired (e.g., WESCAM MX10 and FLIR Star Safire).
- Modification, integration, and installation of avionics and systems.
- General computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to retain information and make decisions according to standard policies and procedures.
- Ability to determine work methods to accomplish assignments.
- Working knowledge of applicable FAA Federal Aviation Regulations.
- Ability to obtain a Department of Justice (DOJ) security clearance is required.
- Must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
- Must maintain a valid US Passport and appropriate vaccinations required for international travel.
- Must have adequate hand tools to complete maintenance tasks on the aircraft.
