Flight Controls System Manager – Advanced Programs (Job Number: 338754)
Bell is seeking a self scheduler motivated Flight Controls Systems Engineering Manager to join Bell’s Advanced Programs Team and support the development and demonstration of innovative next‑generation vertical lift aircraft. This manager will be directly involved in the development of a range of novel products and platforms一点。 The emerging concept vehicles and projects provide opportunities for conceptual design, detail design, and test of configurations and technologies that will shape the future of aviation。 This position will lead a diverse team of engineers in an agile environment with broad exposure to a range of projects and programs。
Responsibilities- Manage a team of Flight Control Systems engineers across multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment
- Act as a technical mentor to provide guidance on system development processes, tools, and methods
- Coordinate the design and test of Fly‑by‑Wire Flight Control Systems (FCS) with embedded software and complex hardware in a rapid development environment within a relatively small team working on cutting‑edge aerospace technology
- Lead the development of systems architecture, system and software design, redundancy management, electronic hardware design and integration, sensor design and integration, and actuator design and controls integration
- Develop unique air vehicle control mechanisms, autonomous systems and control algorithms, and flight control law integration
- Requirements management, systems specifications, interface management, system safety assessment, verification and validation testing via desktop simulation and system integration labs, and participation in aircraft flight test activities
- Perform formal software development through requirements‑based development and verification
- Familiarity with relevant standards, for example: RTCA DO‑178, RTCA DO‑254, SAE ARP
4754A, SAE ARP
4761, 14 CFR Part 27, and Part 29 for commercial and military qualification and certification of aircraft systems - Familiarity with embedded hardware and software design, including:
- Electronic hardware, electric motor drive, signal conditioning, sensor integration, software implementation
- Data protocols such as RS‑422, RS‑485, UART, ARINC 429, Ethernet, SPI
- Experience with system architecture creation, design diagrams, interconnect diagrams, and interface control documentation
- Experience with creation of system specifications, requirements traceability, and verification
- Familiarity with avionics systems, inertial systems, electrical power systems, electro‑mechanical actuation systems, and hydro‑mechanical actuation systems
- Experience with flight control system development and testing in a lab environment
- Experience with aircraft installation, functional testing, and troubleshooting
- Experience with the following primary development environments:
- Math Works MATLAB / Simulink
- C/C++ code
- Bench tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, power supplies
- Serena Dimensions / PVCS, Git
- At least 8 years of professional experience with embedded control software development. Preference is given for additional work in sensor and actuator controls, avionics, or electrical systems integration, development, and testing.
- Informal leadership experience is required; experience managing a team as part of a technical development effort is preferred.
