What We're Doing

At Lockheed Martin Rotary and Mission Systems, we drive innovation and uphold the highest standards of business ethics. Pushing the boundaries of visionary thinking enables us to achieve exceptional results and make a meaningful impact while working in a culture that values integrity and excellence.

Our Work

As a Staff Rotors Design Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and support of sophisticated rotor head systems that enable safe, high‑performance aircraft missions. You will work closely with analysts, material and process engineers, manufacturing engineers, test engineers, and suppliers to translate mission requirements into elegant, manufacturable solutions, leveraging both traditional machining and cutting‑edge additive manufacturing and composite technologies. U.S. citizenship is required due to program security requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design, development, and validation of rotor head components—including bearings, seals, controls, hydraulics, and blades—using advanced manufacturing methods such as additive manufacturing and composites.
  • Strategically engineer change processes, drawing revisions, and specification updates to ensure compliance with customer requirements and program schedules.
  • Influence cross‑functional teams—analysts, material and process engineers, manufacturing, test, and supplier partners—to drive design closure and performance optimization.
  • Apply advanced simulation tools (ANSYS FEA & CFD) to assess loading, dynamics, and structural integrity, ensuring safety and mission success.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance on CATIA V5/3DX modeling, CAD best practices, and manufacturing considerations for aluminum, titanium, and steel parts.
  • Develop and implement automation tools (VB macros, Python, MATLAB) to streamline complex engineering tasks and improve productivity.
  • Ensure all deliverables meet Lockheed Martin's business ethics, quality, and security standards.
Who You Are

You are a proactive senior engineer with deep expertise in helicopter drive systems and rotor design, capable of leading complex mechanical challenges and influencing cross‑disciplinary teams. Your strong problem‑solving skills, technical writing ability, and aptitude for automation enable you to deliver elegant, mission‑critical solutions.

Why Join Us

You will drive innovation and transformation across our factories, leveraging industry‑leading technologies and collaborating with cross‑functional stakeholders to shape the future of manufacturing. This role offers a unique blend of autonomy, strategic influence, and technical expertise, allowing you to make a lasting impact on our operations and advance your career as a technology leader.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Aeronautical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related engineering field.
  • 10+ years of experience with power transmission/mechanical systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and engineering software tools (3D/2D CAD).
Desired Skills
  • 15+ years of experience in helicopter drive systems or rotor design.
  • Proficient with CATIA V5 and 3DX design tools.
  • Experience with ANSYS FEA & CFD analytical tools.
  • Experience with manufacturing aluminum, titanium, and steel parts.
  • Able to create tools to streamline complex engineering tasks (VB Macros, Python, MATLAB).
  • Excellent verbal communication and technical writing skills.
