Assistant Project Manager - Program Management (North Texas Region) at Burns & Mc Donnell
OverviewBurns & McDonnell is a market leader in providing program management services to the utility industry. Our Transmission & Distribution global practice is seeking an Assistant Project Manager (APM) for the North Texas Region. The APM will assist project managers on a variety of projects of varying complexity, and may manage some smaller projects independently. The role serves as a coordinator and project liaison to clients, subcontractors, vendors, and stakeholders, ensuring project goals are achieved within the prescribed timeframe and budget.
Responsibilities- Support Project Management Teams in planning, executing, and monitoring projects through all stages, including siting, permitting, estimating, engineering, right-of-way acquisition, project controls, procurement, construction oversight, and closeout.
- Manage contractors' submittals, requests for information, supplemental design instructions, and site drawing logs.
- Verify contractor compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and material management programs.
- Execute contracts, including change order management, field change directives, invoice approval, and schedule management.
- Assist with project controls efforts, including cost reporting, scheduling, work breakdown structure establishment, accounting system setup, and field progress tracking.
- Assist with the development of internal and external reports, such as budgeting, cost reports, cash flow forecasts, and status updates to stakeholders.
- Close out contract and project documentation.
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, Construction Management, or a related accredited program and a minimum of 5 years of applicable experience.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Project Management Professional Certification (PMP), Program Management Professional Certification (PgMP), or related certification is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, demanding work environment and to work overtime on short notice.
- High proficiency using Microsoft Office.
- Ability to collaborate with owners, contractors, project managers, engineers, and designers in a multi‑discipline team environment to resolve design or drawing issues and accomplish objectives.
- Creativity, foresight, and mature judgment in anticipating and solving problems.
- Travel to project locations may be required, with travel expected to be about 50% of overall time.
