Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly qualified Aircraft Systems Safety Engineer to join our team. In this role, you will apply your expertise in software safety standards and requirements across the entire development lifecycle, from hazard identification through development to system/software qualification testing. This position is key to ensuring the safe, effective, and compliant integration of aircraft systems, requiring strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and an ability to collaborate within cross-functional teams.
- Safety Analysis and Compliance:
Conduct comprehensive safety analyses aligned with standards including DO-178C, MIL-STD-822, AMCOM
385-17, the Joint Software Safety Engineering Handbook, SAE ARP-4761, and MIL-STD-882. - Perform Aircraft and System Functional Hazard Assessments (AFHA/SFHAs).
- Conduct System Safety Assessments (PASA, PSSA, ASA, SSA), Particular Risk Analysis (PRA), Zonal Safety Analysis (ZSA), and Common Mode Analysis (CMA).
- Execute Preliminary Hazard Analysis (PHA), Operational & Support Hazard Analysis (O&SHA), Health Hazard Analysis (HHA), System/Subsystem Hazard Analysis (SHA/SSHA), and Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA).
- Develop Safety Assessment Reports (SARs).
- Model-Based Engineering (MBE):
Leverage Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and Model-Based Safety Analysis (MBSA) to advance safety assessments, system design, and analysis. - Cross-functional Collaboration:
Work with internal and external teams to resolve complex, integrated system challenges, ensuring a structured safety program process. - Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain strong relationships with both internal and external customers, presenting technical insights and project updates to leadership and stakeholders.
- Minimum of 2 years in aircraft or system development/sustainment programs with structured safety programs or plans.
- Experience with the civil safety process as per SAE ARP-4761 and ARP-4754, or defense safety processes per MIL-STD-882.
- Practical knowledge of aircraft systems, operational understanding of aircraft support systems, and related components.
- Proficiency in software safety standards throughout the development lifecycle.
- Direct experience in various safety analyses (e.g., AFHA, SFHA, PASA, SSA, ZSA, FMECA).
- Familiarity with MBSE and MBSA practices.
- Bachelors degree in a STEM field; advanced degrees or relevant experience with military rotorcraft/powered lift aviator or mechanic qualifications will be considered.
