In this role, you will have the opportunity to participate in engineering and design of the HVAC and plumbing systems in various types of facilities. The HVAC Team is engaged in the following:
- Design and Construction Activities
- Project Delivery Methods - Traditional Design-Bid-Build and Alternative Conceptual-Bid-Build
- Facility Types – Power Generation buildings, Substations, Oil & Gas structures and Energy Storage buildings
- Systems – HVAC and Plumbing
- Type of Areas – Power Generation Hall, Administrative, Warehouse, Maintenance, Workshop, Laboratory, Chemical Storage & Handling, Electrical Distribution Center, Low & Medium Voltage Switchgear, Pump Areas, Engine Generator, Blowers/Air Compressors, and Flammable & Combustible Liquids Storage
- Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
- Studies
- Energy Audit/Efficiency - Engineering studies, system performance reviews, and energy compliance calculations
- Code Review/Application - Facility review for code compliance
- Sustainable Design/LEED - Application of sustainable strategies
The Mechanical Buildings Design Group provides HVAC and plumbing solutions for Black & Veatch’s 3 market sectors - Governments & Environment, Energy & Process Industries, and Connectivity & Commercial. In this role, you will be engaged with projects across the globe, ranging from small community improvements to mega projects, contributing to infrastructure growth and development while growing your own skills. Preferred QualificationsBasic knowledge of the following areas:
- NFPA standards
- Computer generated HVAC Heatloads, energy modeling and HVAC equipment sizing
- Technical Submittal reviewing process;
Bid reviewing process - Microsoft Office Suite
- Bluebeam Revu
- LEED AP certification and experience in obtaining LEED certification for industrial buildings
- Extensive experience with large-scale water-cooled chillers (preferred)
- International Codes Council (ICC) Suite of Codes
- ASHRAE Handbooks / Standards
- ASPE design handbooks
- SMACNA Standards
Bachelor s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent experience. Minimum of 5 years related work experience. Pre-employment onboarding requirements may include background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search as per applicable laws and regulations. Active engineering registration/licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and support where necessary.

Work Environment and Schedule- This position typically works in an office environment with possible prolonged computer use; may involve site visits with physical tasks such as crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods.
