These full-time faculty positions are on-campus and in-person.

The Department of Film, Television and Digital Media in the Bob Schieffer College of Communication at Texas Christian University (TCU) in Fort Worth, Texas, invites applications for two full-time Assistant Professors of Professional Practice to begin in Fall (August) 2026.

We seek candidates with extensive practical experience in (a) writing, directing, cinematography, and other areas of narrative film/video production and/or (b) sports broadcasting in the areas of on‑air talent, production, and critical analysis who can effectively teach a combination of courses in two of the following three areas:

  • Media production (sample course titles include Pre‑Production, Production, Post‑Production, Advanced Video Production).
  • Sports broadcasting (sample course titles include Global Sports Media, Play‑by‑Play, Post‑Production for Sports, Special Topics in Sports, Video Production for Sports).
  • Critical media studies (sample course titles include The Art of Film and TV, Media Milestones [Film and TV], Media Analysis, Film and Television Genres, World Cinema).

Desired combinations include a faculty member who can effectively teach a range of courses in both media production and critical media studies, a faculty member who can effectively teach a range of courses in both sports broadcasting and media production, etc.

At TCU, Assistant Professors of Professional Practice are full‑time faculty members who are teaching specialists with significant professional experience. They may advance on a promotion track from assistant to associate to full PPP. They are not eligible for tenure or de facto tenure, but as they earn promotion, annual contracts may become 3‑ and 5‑year contracts.

Responsibilities will include teaching seven courses per academic year, continuing professional engagement, service to the university through committee memberships, student advising and attendance at university events, etc. An Assistant PPP must maintain professional knowledge and skill appropriate to their discipline.

Duties and Essential Job Functions
  • Teaching: Prepares for and meets academic instruction responsibilities for courses as assigned. Responsibilities may be covered in the classroom, laboratory, or other such environments. Faculty members are also expected to schedule their own office hours weekly.
  • Service: Serves the community through committee membership, participation in faculty governance and processes, activities relating to university programs, and other such activities that contribute to TCU and its mission.
  • Advising / Mentoring: May serve as advisors and/or mentors to students. Meets and provides advice to students that are designated as advisees.
  • Other Duties: Performs other related duties as assigned.

    Education and Experience

    Earned Master’s degree in an appropriate area required;
    Master of Fine Arts or other terminal degree preferred.

    1–5 years of professional experience in the field of film/television production.
