Child Nutrition Assistant

Position Title: Child Nutrition Assistant

Reports to: Principal

Department: Cafeteria

Position Category: Permanent/exempt/part-time/10 month contract

Position Summary: The Child Nutrition Assistant performs semi-skilled and unskilled tasks necessary for the preparation and serving of meals and the operation and care of school cafeteria.

Job Scope: This position has no direct supervisory authority

Essential

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and serve food
  • Properly store and handle food items and supplies
  • Maintain a clean and organized storage area
  • Create and maintain positive communication with students, administration, staff, and faculty
  • Demonstrate a high level of flexibility and willingness to adapt to changes
  • Meet all standards of local, state and federal health and National School Lunch Program (NSLP) regulations
  • Meet all dress code standards set forth in employee guidelines
  • Promote FWAFA in a positive manner within the school and community
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/ Environmental Factors:

Posture:Prolonged standing, infrequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting

Motion:Frequent walking

Lifting:Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 25 pounds)

Environment:Work is located on campus site in a cafeteria; regular exposure to noise

Mental Demands:Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours

Minimum Education, Experience and Certification:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent required

Skills and Capabilities

  • Knowledge of food handler safety
  • Knowledge of methods, materials, equipment, and appliances used in food preparation
  • Basic Math skills
  • Ability to carry out written and oral instructions;
    Ability to trouble-shoot and problem-solve
  • Previous experience in food service
  • Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
