Job Title: Technical Writer/Instructional Designer

Employment Type: Contract, 6-12 months

Location: Downtown Ft. Worth, TX - Hybrid

Salary Range: $35-55/hr (W2)

Akkodis is seeking a Technical Writer/Instructional Designer for a contract position in Ft. Worth, TX. This will be a hybrid schedule with 2-3 days/week onsite. The desired candidate will have 5+ years work experience in tech writing, communications, training content, instructional design or related field. The technical writer/instructional designer will be responsible for developing and maintaining Distribution Planning process documentation and training curriculum/materials.

This role requires proficiency in both technical communication and adult learning theory to translate complex electrical engineering concepts into clear, engaging, and accessible learning experiences for employees at all levels. This is an excellent opportunity with an industry leader!!!

2-3X hybrid onsite in Ft. Worth, TX

Responsibilities
  • Write and edit technical process documentation, including but not limited to work instructions and quick-reference guides, standard operating procedures, and technical manuals.
  • Develop standardized templates, style guides, and documentation processes to ensure consistency and quality across all written materials.
  • Develop and maintain innovative, performance-based training materials and curricula using Human Performance principles, ADDIE methodology, and best practices for various delivery formats, including instructor‑led training (ILT), e‑learning, and blended learning.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to conduct learning needs assessments to identify knowledge gaps and define clear, measurable learning objectives for training programs.
  • Utilize e‑learning authoring software (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate) and Learning Management Systems (LMS) to create and deliver training content.
  • Create storyboards, simulations, hands‑on exercises, assessments, and multimedia elements to enhance technical training effectiveness and engagement.
  • Manage project timelines for the design, development, and implementation of all assigned projects.
  • Perform all essential functions and aspects of the job description including any other specific job requirements.
Skills
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent is required.
  • 5+ years experience as an Instructional Designer, Technical Writer, or a blended role in a technical or engineering environment.
  • Proficiency with e‑learning authoring tools (e.g., Articulate 360, Adobe Captivate, or similar software, learning management systems, and multimedia technology (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Adobe Premiere, video and audio creation/editing).
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite (Visio, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and SharePoint.
  • Strong understanding of instructional design principles, adult learning theory, and effective training methodologies.
  • Excellent planning, organizational, time management, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Self‑starter, highly motivated with the ability to work independently or collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated expertise in process design and development to drive efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to assess needs and develop effective solutions.
  • Experience in the electric utility industry desired, but not required.
