Overview

Primary

Purpose:

Provide students with appropriate grade level art instruction and lead the school art program. Enable students to develop artistic expression, visual literacy, a wide range of media, techniques, and art history, while nurturing creativity, critical thinking, and individual student voice.

Base pay and compensation

Base pay range: $54,000.00/yr - $68,300.00/yr

Compensation package for certified teachers starting at $57,000*

Compensation package for non-certified teachers starting at $54,000*

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
  • Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or training for subject and level assigned – preferred
  • Demonstrated competency in the core academic subject area assigned

Special Knowledge/

Skills:

  • Knowledge of core academic subject assigned
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing art
  • Ability to manage budget
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in a range of artistic media and styles

Experience:

  • One-year student teaching or approved internship preferred
Major responsibilities and duties

Instructional Strategies

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the district’s curriculum requirements and reflect accommodations for differences among students.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology aligned with student needs and guidelines.
  • Assess student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
  • Work with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for IEPs.
  • Collaborate with staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods.
  • Plan and assign work to instructional aides and volunteers and oversee completion.
  • Student Growth and Development

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
  • Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned; sponsor approved outside activities.
  • Be a positive role model and support the mission of the school district.
  • Classroom Management and Organization

  • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for students’ development.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and instructional materials.
  • Maintain required reports, records, and documents.
  • Communication

  • Establish and maintain professional relationships and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
  • Professional Growth and Development

  • Participate in staff development to improve job-related skills.
  • Comply with regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on committees as required.
  • Additional Duties:

  • Organize and display student artwork for exhibitions and events.
  • Establish performance and academic requirements and verify eligibility for art competitions.
  • Support participation in extracurricular events, including UIL.
  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:

    Direct the work of assigned instructional aide(s).
