Construction Inspector I or II – North Tarrant Area Office (2600697)

TxDOT's Fort Worth District is looking for a Construction Inspector I or II based in Euless, TX.

Work location:

2501 W Euless Blvd, Euless, TX 76040.

Job Overview

Inspects construction methods and workmanship to ensure contractors deliver roadways, bridges, traffic signals, airports, and related structures in accordance with plans and specifications. Acts as a consultant regarding work progress and problem resolution, serving as the sole inspector on smaller projects or assisting in overseeing large or complex projects within the district. Works under a licensed professional engineer who approves all work.

Salary

Minimum: $45,521.00 per year.
Maximum: $76,028.00 per year.

Responsibilities Construction Inspector I Responsibilities
  • Calculates payments due to contractors for work completed.
  • Consults with Project Engineers, resident project representatives and contractors' superintendents on work progress and construction problems; reviews equipment utilization data and time/cost estimates.
  • Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Observes and inspects ongoing construction work.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Construction Inspector II Responsibilities
  • Handles problem calls from producers, suppliers, inspectors and construction project field personnel.
  • Prepares and reviews correspondence.
  • Calculates payments due to contractors for work completed.
  • Conducts project reviews and coordinates inspections with various inspectors and other district/division project managers.
  • Ensures contractors build roadways, bridges and related highway structures and/or airport improvements in accordance with plans and specifications.
  • Prepares monthly and final estimates.
  • Serves as a lead worker or project leader.
  • Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications Construction Inspector I Qualifications
  • Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: No experience required; related college education or technical training may substitute.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.
  • Methods for reviewing plans and specifications for compliance with requirements.
  • Basic traffic management and control procedures.
  • Applicable industry safety standards, guidelines, and specification codes.
Construction Inspector II Qualifications
  • Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
  • Experience: 1 year of construction, construction inspection, engineering support, maintenance and repairs, materials or process inspection; or transportation engineering support related experience.
  • Licenses: Valid driver’s license; position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Applicable plans, specifications and estimates preparation, review, processing and compliance requirements.
  • Construction engineering policies and procedures.
  • Applicable inspection methods, procedures and techniques.
  • Basic traffic management and control procedures.
  • The Texas Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices.
Physical & Safety Requirements

This position is physically demanding and requires a pre‑employment physical. Must pass a drug test prior to employment for safety impact positions and will be subject to random drug testing. Requires work weekends and holidays, work hours outside 8:00‑5:00, exposure to inclement weather, and wearing personal protective equipment.
