The position is ideal for someone early in their construction career who enjoys reviewing drawings, working with numbers, and contributing to competitive bid preparation. The estimator will collaborate with senior estimating staff to help organize pricing data, verify scope coverage, and maintain accurate documentation throughout the bidding process.
This role is strictly focused on estimating and bid preparation and does not include project management, field supervision, or jobsite responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quantity takeoffs for materials and basic construction cost calculations
- Review architectural, structural, and technical drawings to support accurate estimating
- Assist senior estimators with preparing bid proposals and supporting documentation
- Research pricing for materials, labor, and equipment within current market conditions
- Maintain organized estimate files, subcontractor quotes, and vendor pricing records
- Assist with bid coordination activities and ensure deadlines are met
- Gather pricing information from suppliers and subcontractors as requested
- Update estimating spreadsheets, cost databases, and project tracking tools
- Verify project scope consistency between plans, specifications, and estimate assumptions
- Support internal efforts to improve estimating processes and cost accuracy
- 1-3 years of experience in construction estimating or construction support roles
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and project specifications
- Experience performing basic quantity takeoffs
- Familiarity with estimating software, spreadsheets, or digital takeoff tools
- Strong mathematical ability and analytical thinking skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational ability
- Good communication skills when interacting with vendors and internal teams
- High school diploma required; associate degree or construction-related coursework preferred
- Exposure to residential or commercial construction estimating
- Familiarity with subcontractor bid solicitation processes
- Understanding of construction bidding timelines and proposal preparation
- Ability to manage multiple estimating tasks within a deadline-driven environment
