Northeast Indiana Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Hospital (NIVES) in Fort Wayne, Indiana is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Emergency Veterinarian Mentee to join our collaborative, team-focused hospital. We operate a busy 24-hour, multi-specialty and emergency referral service, offering a high-level setting to thrive and make a meaningful impact on patient care.
Why NIVES?- Support: We have a minimum of 2 Emergency Veterinarians and 8 support staff per shift (2–3 receptionists, 2–3 treatment technicians, and 3 dedicated ICU technicians).
- State-of-the-art care: CT, digital radiology, echocardiography, ultrasound, endoscopy, and high-flow oxygen.
- Robust specialty & emergency support: Work with board-certified specialists in Surgery, Critical Care, Cardiology, and Internal Medicine, plus 12 experienced emergency doctors.
- Blood donor program: In-house donor program for life-saving transfusions.
- On-site social worker: Four days a week to support both our team and clients during difficult cases.
- Teaching & mentorship culture: A teaching hospital hosting students from around the world with daily case rounds with board-certified specialists, ER clinicians, and technicians.

Position: ER Immerse Training ProgramWe seek future veterinarians passionate about Emergency Medicine for our 6-month training and mentorship program. We are looking for team-oriented, driven, reflective, and reliable individuals.
Program Details- The Ethos ER Immerse Program prepares veterinarians for a sustainable and satisfying career in emergency medicine. It focuses on clinical knowledge, communication, professional skills, and life/work integration, with daily collaboration among clinicians and mentors.
- Hybrid training combines simulation-based didactics with live-patient experiences, using an evidence-based curriculum to identify essential competencies for an emergency clinician.
- 6-month training program beginning June 2026
- 1-year commitment as an ER clinician following training

- 5-day work week with 4 clinical days, 1 didactic day, and 2 days off
- Paired with a specific mentor with the same schedule for the first 3 months
- After month 3, transition to swings if comfortable; no overnights unless approved
- Surgical training with board-certified surgeons
- Competency-based curriculum with asynchronous learning on VetBLOOM and weekly live didactic rounds
- Regular live continuing education events led by specialists and experienced emergency doctors
