Requirements: RN license, ACLS, BLS

Experience:

2+ years; oncology experience preferred

EMR:
Cerner

Unit:
Medical/Surgical Oncology; chemotherapy administration; blood products

Number of beds in unit: 24

Patient ratio: 5:1 (sometimes 6:1)

Scrub color:
Navy blue

RTO blackout dates or required holidays:
Every other holiday required

GH: 72 Bi-Weekly (96 Bi-Weekly not an option)

Call requirements:
Every other or every third weekend; holidays on rotation; no on-call requirements

Job scope:
Provide direct patient care to oncology patients; administer medications; monitor responses; education for patients and families; participate in care planning and documentation; adhere to safety standards and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Provide direct patient care to oncology patients in various settings.
  • Administer medications and monitor patient responses to treatments.
  • Educate patients and families about cancer treatments and care plans.
  • Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop individualized care plans.
  • Monitor vital signs and report changes to the healthcare team.
  • Assist in managing patient pain and discomfort effectively.
  • Document patient progress and maintain accurate medical records.
  • Engage in performance evaluations and personal improvement goals.
  • Utilize data to assess patient outcomes and improve care strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and safety standards.
  • Foster a supportive environment for patients and families.
Experience / Qualifications
  • Current RN license in the state of practice.
  • ACLS and BLS certificated as required.
  • 2+ years of nursing experience; oncology experience preferred.
  • Strong collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Competency in monitoring vital signs and responding to changes.
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and safety standards.
  • Ability to work in a high-visibility, results-oriented environment.
  • Experience with documenting patient progress and maintaining records.
  • Oncology-specific chemotherapy certification within one year of employment (for Lutheran employed staff).
