Certified Welding Inspector (Fort Wayne, IN)
We are seeking a Certified Welding Inspector to perform a variety of duties related to welding operations, training, testing, and quality assurance.
Responsibilities- Interview and pre-employment test welding operators.
- Perform internal candidate testing to match American Welding Society 1G and 2G certification specifications, while maintaining accurate testing records.
- Plan and execute post-hire training and testing of welding operators, covering basic math, welding symbol interpretation, defect identification, machine set‑up, crane usage, company job-tracking software, and safety procedures.
- Oversee trainees in a dedicated training area, determine proficiency levels, and generate paperwork to release them into general operations.
- Determine weld recipes for production welding of parts and write welding procedures for the welded product.
- Plan jobs by reviewing router and complex blueprints and coordinating equipment, fixtures, material, and supplies to maximize weld time.
- Fit and weld production and/or sample jobs as required, operating tools such as sanders, grinders, torches, and various welding machines (mig, arc, and tig).
- Set up jobs, retrieve equipment and materials, fit parts in fixtures, clamp them, and set voltage and amperage for material thickness.
- Hand‑fit parts or fabricate simple fixtures by interpreting blueprints, operating fabrication machines, and assembling fixtures.
- Unload and load pieces in and out of fixtures using manual labor or overhead cranes, positioning and clamping them as needed.
- Perform first‑piece and in‑process inspection, checking dimensions and weld quality with calipers, height gauges, protractors, and squares, following blueprints and C=0 charts, and complete inspection forms.
- Conduct non‑destructive testing on welded parts, such as ultrasonic testing.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on welding equipment, calibrate machines per company standards, and log maintenance in the Vantage system.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in welding engineering or welding technology, or up to 4 years of related experience.
- Associate’s or higher degree in welding or a related engineering technology, engineering or a physical science, with up to 3 years of related experience.
Language
Skills:
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to write simple correspondence.
- Ability to effectively present information in one‑on‑one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
Math
Skills:
- Perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
- Compute rates, ratios, and percentages.
Reasoning
Skills:
- Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Address problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
