Responsibilities- Interview and perform pre‑employment testing for welding operators.
- Test internal candidates to American Welding Society specifications for 1G and 2G certification; maintain testing records.
- Plan and execute post‑hire training and testing of welding operators, covering basic math, welding symbol interpretation, defect identification, machine setup, crane use, company computerized job tracking software, and safety.
- Oversee new welding trainees in a segregated training area, determine proficiency level, and generate paperwork to release them to general welding operations.
- Determine weld recipes for production welding of parts and write welding procedures for welded products.
- Plan jobs by selecting equipment, fixtures, materials, and supplies from the router and complex blueprints; schedule sequences to maximize weld time.
- Fit and weld production or sample jobs as required to satisfy customer specifications, finishing or repairing parts using tools such as sanders, grinders, and torches.
- Set up jobs by retrieving equipment and materials, fitting pieces in fixtures, clamping as needed, and setting voltage and amperage for material thickness.
- Hand‑fit parts or fabricate simple fixtures by interpreting blueprints, determining dimensions, and operating fabrication machines such as saws and drill presses.
- Load and unload pieces in and out of fixtures manually or with an overhead crane, position and clamp pieces, and operate MIG welding machines (tack or weld) or perform arc and TIG welding procedures.
- Perform first‑piece and in‑process inspections using calipers, height gauges, protractors, and squares; inspect against C=0 charts and complete inspection forms.
- Perform non‑destructive testing on welded parts, including ultrasonic testing.
- Perform maintenance and repairs on welding equipment, calibrate machines per company requirements, and log maintenance in the Vantage system.
- Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s or higher degree in welding engineering or welding technology, or up to 4 years of substitution;
Associate’s or higher degree in welding or related engineering technology, engineering, or a physical science, or up to 3 years of substitution. - Language
Skills:
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; write simple correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small‑group settings to customers and employees. - Math
Skills:
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; compute rate, ratio, and percent. - Reasoning
Skills:
Apply common sense to carry out instructions in written, oral, or diagram form; solve problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. - Physical Demands:
Regularly sit, use hands, touch, and hear; reach with hands and arms; occasionally stand, walk, and kneel; lift and/or move up to 25 pounds; maintain close vision and focus adjustment. - Work Environment & Equity:
