Primary Purpose

To perform a variety of cleaning activities in assigned buildings/facilities, keeping them clean, sanitary, and orderly, and performing other tasks related to the area of assignment.

Essential Responsibilities
  • High dusting: use a treated high duster, begin cleaning in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room—high dust surfaces above shoulder height, i.e., lights above doors, curtain tips, vents and ledges. Clean the high duster by gently brushing in a downward direction into the service cart.
  • Sanitizing / spot cleaning: use a germicidal solution, work in a counter‑clockwise direction around the room, sanitizing surfaces below shoulder height, i.e., ledges, chairs, telephone, countertops and trash cans. Remove fingerprints and smudges from doorknobs and walls; spot‑clean windows.
  • Bathroom cleaning: using a germicidal solution, wipe down in the following order—above and below sink; toilet seat and the outside of the toilet bowl; inside of the toilet with a Johnnie mop and proper germicidal solution, paying attention to the rim of the bowl. Check and refill soap and paper dispensers daily.
  • Empty trash cans: if liquid is inside, remove the liner and wipe the can, then place a clean liner.
  • Floor dusting or vacuuming: use a treated dust mop head, begin at the back of the room with the “S” stroke, dust under all furniture and in the restroom, stopping just inside the door. When vacuuming, start at the back of the room and work toward the door, getting under chairs and other furniture.
  • Grounds care: outside areas should be cleaned and checked several times a day. Tasks include clearing ash urns and trash cans; policing sidewalks, flower beds, curb lines for trash and cigarette butts; spot‑cleaning spills on sidewalks; removing gum; wiping benches, vending machines, lower window ledges; high dusting for dust and cobwebs; cleaning public area glass as necessary; policing the parking lot for trash.
  • Public common areas: dust mop and spot mop the main hallways; ensure glass is cleaned several times a day; keep planters clean and free from bird waste; perform high dusting of window areas at least twice a week; check all corners and edges for debris.
  • Food court: clean, remove trash, and sanitize tables; place chairs back under tables; spot‑clean spills; empty and clean trash cans; remove accumulated dirty trays, wash room and clean using tray power washer; stack clean trays for recycling; police outside eating areas.
  • Floor sanitizing: using a germicidal solution, start at the back of the room and mop under furniture and behind doors as you back out.
  • Your inspection: after completing a room, review cleaning steps and check furniture placement; correct as needed to prevent problems or complaints. Hall, lobby, stairs, water fountains, furniture, wall spotting and high dusting is done daily.
  • Customer relations and service: knock lightly on the door before entering if occupied; be friendly and cheerful; answer questions courteously or refer to someone who can; report anything broken or out of order to supervisor; work quietly and speak quietly; reduce noise; stay in assigned area unless instructed; avoid loud talking, laughing; maintain a clean and neat personal appearance; report if work is not finished by shift end;

    be courteous. Perform other duties as assigned or directed by supervisor or account manager, including floor care, stripping and waxing floors, extracting and bonneting carpets, auto scrub, and buffing floors.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of basic operations of janitorial work, methods, materials and equipment, safe work practices, and use of toxic and non‑toxic chemicals per MSDS sheets.
  • Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions; communicate with co‑workers and supervisors; operate powered and non‑powered equipment; interpret written instructions and warning labels; maintain physical condition appropriate to duties (walking, standing, sitting, lifting 1–30 lbs, pushing/pulling with both hands, climbing stairs and ladders, bending, crouching, crawling, overhead reaching, sight and coordination).#IND
