Exhibits & Facilities Manager

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Science Central, a hands‑on science center (physical, natural and applied sciences), located within a large historical building, is currently hiring an organized, creative and skilled exhibits/facilities/building/equipment technician.

• turn on and off, repair, clean, fabricate and install permanent and temporary interactive exhibits, and research new exhibits
• daily maintenance, housekeeping and cleanliness of the building, grounds, facilities, and its components
• set up, tear down and cleaning for special events and programs
• monitoring, and ordering of parts, supplies, equipment and materials
• maintain records of repairs, components and projects
• help train staff and volunteers in operational procedures

time- and detail-oriented; self-motivated; communicative and team-oriented; comfortable in a fast-paced environment; creative problem‑solver; strong hand tool and shop tool skills; experience with facilities and construction components (electrical, plumbing, cabinetry, etc.) and materials (wood, metals, plastics, etc.); experience with cleaning methods and materials preferred; ability to use or learn to use a forklift preferred.

frequent standing, walking, kneeling, stooping, climbing, balancing, pushing, and heavy lifting/moving (large exhibits, crates, machines, etc.); exposure to high and low temperatures, and outside weather conditions; exposure to loud sounds, heights and ladders, and moving mechanical parts; must be able to lift a minimum of 75 lbs.

Experience in building maintenance, construction, fabrication shop, technical trade, etc.; must be comfortable working in a science-related organization; high visibility in a public facility, so must be friendly and outgoing; able to learn and maintain the exhibits database, security systems, and thermostat software systems; comfortable with Microsoft Office programs; ability to drive and valid Driver’s License preferred; successful completion of Criminal Background Check.

Full-time; schedule will include weekdays, weekends and some evenings

$40,000/year salary;
Exempt position; full benefits including medical, dental, etc.; generous paid time off
