Job Description:

Provide oral interpreting and written translation services for language minority students and their families. Serve as a liaison between language minority families, FWCS, schools, and personnel.

• Provide interpretation and translation services to facilitate communications among students, faculty, staff, parents, and others; utilize the appropriate register of the language and intent of the speaker.
• Serve as a liaison between language minority families, FWCS, schools, and personnel.
• Interpret for meetings, conferences, telephone calls, counseling functions, field trips, assemblies, and various other events and activities.
• Assist families with enrolling and completing required forms and applications.
• Translate written communications between FWCS personnel, schools, outside agencies, and limited or non-English speaking families.
• Must be able to transport self to various locations within the FWCS district.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking  incumbent will be required to lift, carry and/or push students weighing 25 pounds or more in wheelchairs as assigned.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.

Any combination equivalent to: graduation from high school. Must possess knowledge of the general aspects, methods, processes, principles, practices, procedures and terminology used in assigned field. Must be proficient in English and at least one other language. Must have strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred qualifications:

College degree, training in the field of translation and interpreting, recognized certification in translation and/or interpreting. Prefer candidates with two years experience in translation and/or interpreting, and experience working with students or families in a social services or educational environment.
