Weed Program Inspector — Seasonal
Hours:
7:00 am – 1:00 pm, 8:00 am – 2:00 pm, or flex as needed.

The Neighborhood Code Compliance division of the City of Fort Wayne is hiring a Seasonal Weed Program Inspector. In this role, you
78217;ll investigate complaints, enforce local weed ordinances, and work directly with residents to improve neighborhood conditions.
- Conduct field inspections related to local weed ordinance violations (Chapter 100: Nuisances). Evaluate properties, document findings, and determine appropriate next steps to achieve compliance.
- Investigate weed complaints and document findings using in-field tablets and software
- Makes on-the-spot determinations regarding appropriate enforcement action to achieve compliance
- Communicate professionally with property owners and occupants, including in adversarial situations
- Prepare clear inspection reports and maintain records in Accela and Collector systems
- Use GIS, digital tools, and public records to verify ownership and support enforcement actions
- High school diploma or GED (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
- Strong communication skills and ability to exercise sound judgment independently
- Ability to interpret ordinances and prepare accurate written reports
- Valid Indiana Driver's License and current auto insurance
- Experience using tablets, databases, and web-based case management systems
- Familiarity with GIS mapping tools and digital photography for documentation
- Ability to read maps and research property ownership records
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office or similar software
- Ability to use measuring tools and post violation notices in the field
Primarily outdoor field work with regular walking and standing. Occasional interaction with hostile property owners. Ability to lift up to 10 pounds and perform light physical tasks required.
