This is an onsite summer internship opportunity located in Fort Wayne, IN. The Material Laboratory Intern role is responsible for standard laboratory testing and data compilation related to polymer testing in the Material Laboratory using a variety of state of the art laboratory equipment. This position will join a high functioning team to support customers in various market segments such as aerospace and health and medical as well as fellow research and development colleagues.
Strong understanding of scientific methods required. Communication and problem solving skills are key.
- Test polymer material samples for the purpose of characterizing polymer’s physical and thermal properties specifically for chemical compatibility and/or Finite Elemental Analysis modeling.
- Perform test requirements as defined in ASTM, customer, and other industry standard specifications.
- Perform data analysis.
- Follow procedures and perform duties in compliance with lab accreditation requirements (ISO
17025). - Remain free from any undue internal influence and external commercial, financial, or other pressures and influences that may adversely affect the quality of their work.
- General upkeep of the laboratory
- Compliance with quality, safety, environmental, and customer mandated procedures
- Other duties as assigned by manager.
- Associates Degree in a scientific field (Physics, Engineering, Chemistry or similar)
- Or
- Sophomore, Junior, or Senior student working towards a scientific degree
- Grade point average of 3.0 or higher
- Lab experience preferred
- Strong analytical, decision making, and problem solving skills required
- Proficient in MS office preferred
- Technical writing skills required
- Experience with coding a plus
- Strong mechanical and technical aptitude
- Time management while meeting targeted completion dates
- Strong organizational skills with an ability to multi-task and lead projects
- Attention to detail and accuracy. “Right the first time” mentality
- Ability to work independently the majority of the time while still functioning well in a team environment
- Positive, professional, can-do demeanor
