Are you an engineering student interested in process improvement, systems thinking, and real-world operational experience?
What You’ll DoSupport engineers working on mechanical, process, and civil infrastructure within Fort Wayne’s water and wastewater facilities. This internship blends field exposure with analytical work focused on efficiency, operations, and system improvement.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with field inspections and verification of plans and specifications
- Help identify infrastructure or process issues and research improvement options
- Collect and analyze data for planning, design, and asset tracking
- Prepare preliminary reports, recommendations, and technical documentation
- Complete required City training modules
- Pursuing a degree in Industrial Manufacturing Engineering or Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of two years of college coursework completed
- Interest in environmental engineering or utility operations preferred
- Valid Indiana Driver’s License, or
- Valid driver’s license with a certified driving record if operating a City vehicle
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, process data, and specifications
- Strong problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a project‑based environment
This internship provides hands‑on exposure to real operational systems, process improvement initiatives, and utility infrastructure. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and gain practical skills that translate directly into engineering careers focused on efficiency and impact.
