FACE: College & Career Readiness | School Assistant | Student Intern

FORT WAYNE COMMUNITY SCHOOLS STUDENT INTERN BASIC FUNCTION:

Intern will assist a certified teacher as they instruct individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment; assist in the preparation of instructional materials and implementation of lesson plans; provide clerical support for instructional activities.

Must currently be a Fort Wayne Community Schools high school junior or senior. Must have some office, computer, and oral and written communication skills.

• Assist a certified teacher as they instruct individual or small groups of students in a classroom environment.
• Assist in monitoring and oversee student drills, practices and assignments in various subjects.
• Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects in various subject areas; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
• Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities such as preparing, typing, duplicating and filing instructional materials.
• Assist designated adult in monitoring students during outdoor and recess activities as required; monitor and report progress regarding student performance and behavior.
• Read books to students and observe their reading abilities as assigned by the position; assist students with letter and word pronunciation and recognition as required; assist students with spelling and writing exercises and assignments.
• Provide classroom support to the teacher by preparing and setting up work areas, decorations, posters and displays, and distributing and collecting paper, supplies and materials.
• Assure the health and safety of students by following health and safety practices and procedures; maintain classroom and other assigned areas in a safe, orderly and clean manner.
• Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.

While performing the duties of this job, the intern is regularly required to speak and hear. The intern is required to have dexterity of hands and fingers. The intern is required to sit or stand for extended periods of time. They may be occasionally required to bend at the waist, kneel or crouch. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

While performing the duties of this job the incumbent is seated or walking  incumbent will be required to lift, carry and/or push students weighing 25 pounds or more in wheelchairs as assigned. While performing the duties of this job, the intern is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions.
