Position Summary

The ELL Coordinator serves as both a direct-service teacher for English Learners at the middle and high school levels and as the district leader of the K-12 English Learner program. This role ensures that English Learners receive high-quality instruction aligned to state and federal requirements while supporting classroom teachers and administrators in meeting the academic and language development needs of multilingual students.

The Coordinator provides instructional leadership, ensures compliance with state and federal guidelines, oversees program implementation, and collaborates with elementary ELL teachers to ensure alignment and continuity across grade levels.

Essential Responsibilities

Direct Instruction & Student Support (Middle & High School)

* Provide direct English language development instruction to identified English Learners.

* Develop and implement individualized learning plans based on language proficiency data.

* Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to support academic growth and language acquisition.

* Collaborate with general education teachers to support appropriate classroom accommodations and instructional strategies.

* Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress and available supports.

Program Leadership & Oversight (K-12)

* Oversee implementation of the district's English Learner program across all grade levels.

* Collaborate with elementary ELL teachers to ensure program consistency and instructional alignment.

* Coordinate identification, placement, monitoring, and exit procedures for English Learners.

* Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including documentation, reporting, and required notifications.

* Lead district efforts related to language proficiency assessments (e.g., WIDA screening and annual testing).

* Maintain accurate student records and submit required reports in a timely manner.

Collaboration & Professional Support

* Provide guidance and professional learning to staff on effective strategies for supporting multilingual learners.

* Serve as a resource to building administrators regarding ELL services and requirements.

* Partner with counselors and school leaders to support scheduling and appropriate course placement.

* Collaborate with district leadership to evaluate program effectiveness and recommend improvements.

* Perform other duties as assigned by the Building Principal consistent with the purpose of the position.

Communication & Family Engagement

* Support communication with multilingual families, including coordination of translation or interpretation services as needed.

* Ensure required parent notifications are distributed in accordance with legal guidelines.

* Promote inclusive practices that support a welcoming environment for all students and families.

Additional Responsibilities

* Participate in district committees and meetings as assigned.

* Support summer programming or onboarding for newly enrolled English Learners, as needed.

* Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

* Valid Indiana teaching license.

* Appropriate licensure or endorsement in ENL/ELL or TESOL.

* Successful teaching experience, preferably at the secondary level.

* Demonstrated knowledge of language acquisition and instructional strategies for multilingual learners.

* Experience with WIDA standards and assessments preferred.

* Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Physical Requirements

* Ability to work in classroom and office settings.

* Ability to travel between district buildings as needed.
