Study | 5.75hr Title I Literacy Support Assistant
Fort Wayne Community Schools is looking for a Title I Literacy Support Assistant. The position is part‑time (5.75 hours per week) and assists the Unit Head with Title I literacy, compliance, family engagement and Pre‑K requirements.
Responsibilities- Meet with small groups of students daily to provide research‑based literacy interventions for a minimum of half a school day.
- Collaborate with and learn from principals, instructional coaches, and interventionists about research‑based literacy interventions.
- Compile information and maintain appropriate records, logs and reports related to Title I literacy, compliance, family engagement, and Pre‑K.
- Assist in planning and executing family engagement activities (including Title I required expectations) along with school and district staff designed to help parents and families build their capacity to support student learning and growth.
- Assist in Pre‑K classrooms to cover lunch breaks or when Pre‑K staff is out of the classroom (requirements: CPR certification, national fingerprint background check, TB testing and other learning modules).
- Perform related duties as assigned by the Administrator to meet the particular needs of the building/unit.
- High‑school graduate with at least one year of general clerical or school experience; college degree preferred.
- Strong office, computer, oral and written communication skills.
- Drug screen required.
- Must be highly qualified. The paraprofessional can be determined for “highly qualified” if they have at least one of the following: two years of college experience from an accredited college; a two‑year college degree from an accredited college; passed the Para‑Pro Assessment; one year or 1,000 hours of previous employment in a school or working with children; completed 48 credit hours of college‑level classes from an accredited college;
Child Development Associate (CDA) credentials.
The employee is regularly required to sit or stand for extended periods, speak, hear, use dexterity of hands and fingers, and may need to push, pull, lift, and carry objects up to 25 pounds. Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching may be required. Vision requires close vision and ability to adjust focus. The employee may be exposed to outside weather conditions. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
