Duties
The cardiologist will provide direct cardiovascular care to an adult population eligible for care at the VA medical center or at any of its subsidiary locations. The cardiologist is responsible for a wide range of duties to ensure safe, efficient, high quality care. The Cardiologist is responsible for evaluating and treating patients in the designated Cardiology clinic. As a result of a consultation from a PCP, the Cardiologist will complete an initial evaluation with documentation of the history and physical, formulate the plan of care and order entry.
Other vital roles include communication with patients and their families, patient education, communication with outpatient providers, arranging follow‑up care, notification of test results, and medication reconciliation. The Cardiologist will also respond to and complete cardiology e‑consults. It will be the responsibility of the staff Cardiologist to enter orders requiring further workup or evaluations through outpatient/inpatient procedures to include, but are not limited to the following:
- Cardioversion
- Echocardiograms
- Holter monitor
- Event monitor testing
- Nuclear stress testing
- EKG
- Pacer checks
