Project Management Intern – Fort Wayne, IN 2026

Gilbane Development Company is looking for local students to consider an exciting internship opportunity for spring and summer 2026. This Project Management Assistant internship will provide you with hands‑on experience and the opportunity to work on a world‑class student housing complex. You will provide on‑site support to the Gilbane Development Company (GDCo) management team on the construction of the "Trace" student housing project (Purdue University – Fort Wayne campus, 5104 Meeks Dr, Fort Wayne, IN, 46835).

You will provide support through various administrative and documentation responsibilities as well as on‑site verification of various project and occupancy‑related tasks.

Term:
Positions will be of a limited term, commencing about mid‑March in a part‑time status, expanding to full‑time status for the summer until the end of break or another timeframe within. We can be flexible around your class schedule while still attending your spring semester.

Anticipated

Work Hours:

The position requires some flexibility on the part of the PM Assistant regarding specific work hours on a daily basis, including weekends. If the position overlaps with the candidate's school year, Gilbane is willing to cooperate with the PM Assistant to develop a work schedule that fulfills the employer's requirements while accommodating the PM Assistant's class schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Assist in the development and updating of documents required to track the completion of construction, punch list, and owner acceptance of each individual space within the facility. An on‑site tablet/laptop will be made available for this or any other task that requires one.
  • Verify the completion of all work and correction of construction punch list items for selected assigned spaces. Training and guidance will be provided by the Project Manager/Development Manager regarding quality expectations and documentation requirements for this punch list process.
  • Assist GDCo team with the direct supervision and coordination of our own multiple FF&E vendors during the delivery and installation process for various FF&E project needs. During this process, collect/secure or otherwise track any items that will later be turned over to the property management team (e.g., television remote controls, equipment manuals).
  • Verify the installation of FF&E (in terms of quantity and specified items having been received) and develop a punch list for any FF&E discrepancies that require correction.
  • Verify the completion/correction of any identified FF&E punch list items.
  • Assist GDCo team with the receipt and placement of any incidental FF&E items which are being directly purchased by GDCo (e.g., waste receptacles, closet curtains).
Qualifications Experience / Education
  • Currently enrolled in Engineering, Construction Management, Real Estate, or a similar program.
  • Prior exposure to the construction industry is a plus.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Strong interpersonal skills while collaborating with a diverse group of individuals.
  • Willingness to assist in all areas of specific responsibilities as noted herein.
  • Superior attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Self‑motivated and able to work autonomously.
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.

Salary to be determined based on factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and/or experience of the applicant, as well as the internal equity and alignment with the team.
