Summary
The Accountant plays a key role in supporting FWHA’s mission by ensuring accurate financial reporting and maintaining strong accounting practices. This position is responsible for managing the general ledger, preparing detailed financial reports, and assisting with audits. The Accountant also helps improve automated accounting systems and processes to enhance efficiency and compliance.
Essential Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe following outlines the core responsibilities of this role. Additional duties may be assigned as needed:
- General Accounting & Reporting
- Assist with day-to-day accounting activities, including budget development, program monitoring, and monthly financial reporting.
- Maintain accurate financial records and ensure compliance with HUD requirements.
- Audit & Compliance
- Prepare financial documents for annual audits and act as liaison with auditors.
- Monitor audit schedules and ensure timely completion of all requirements.
- Maintain and reconcile the general ledger and sub-ledgers.
- Prepare journal entries, set up new accounts, and assist with year-end closing.
- System & Process Support
- Perform daily and monthly processes in Yardi Tenant Accounting module.
- Coordinate training for accounting staff on Yardi and other systems.
- Process tenant-related financial transactions, including write-offs, refunds, and account close-outs.
- Serve as liaison to Property Managers for tenant accounting issues.
- Oversee cash flow, investments, and timely bank reconciliations.
- Reporting & Analysis
- Prepare special reports and financial analyses as requested.
- Support year-end reporting to HUD and other agencies.

- Promote FWHA’s brand and communicate the public value of affordable housing programs.
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field, plus at least 3 years of public sector accounting experience.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
- Valid state‑issued driver’s license and insurability under FWHA’s plan.
- Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and ability to create and analyze reports.
- Ability to learn and utilize accounting software (e.g., Yardi).
