Overview
The primary purpose of the position is to perform building and/or utility maintenance and operation duties.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for National Capital Parks-East is April–January, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
End of April. Open to the first 100 applicants or until 02/11/2026, whichever comes first. All applications submitted by 11:59 (EST) on the closing day will receive consideration.
- Performs all aspects of the carpentry, plumbing, and painting trades at journeyman level. Repairs and maintains historic buildings, government housing, support structures and buildings within accepted safety, health and sanitary conditions.
- Performs plumbing on potable water and wastewater systems and related equipment (e.g., floats, fittings, sinks, toilets, and fixtures).
- Performs electrical wiring necessary to maintain existing 120 and 240 volt electrical systems and troubleshoots and repairs to 24 and 48 volt photovoltaic power systems.
- Plans and lays out projects, modifies when necessary, and inputs data into the computerized Facility Management Software System (FMSS). Uses electronic email and word processing programs as part of daily work activities.
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
- Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
- Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
- You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Before first operation and annually thereafter, you will sign an affidavit certifying possession of a valid State-issued driver’s license that is current and not disqualified. You will also submit a photocopy of the license and may be required to provide driving records. Indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
- You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
- You will be required to wear a uniform; a uniform allowance will be provided. You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- You may be required to travel overnight up to 1 night per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
