General Description
Aircraft Mechanics II must have a combination of experience to repair fuel systems, engines, sheet metal, and structural, hydraulic, electrical, power‑train and general mechanical maintenance of moderate difficulty, required to meet the assigned missions.
Duties- Maintains repairs and modifies aircraft structures and structural components of moderate difficulty; maintains and repairs aircraft components including flight controls, engines, hydraulics, pneumatics, fuel systems, and mechanical components; applies technical knowledge of airframe and power‑plant systems to determine equipment malfunctions and restores equipment condition and/or operation; uses technical documentation such as blueprints or manufacturers' manuals to solve moderate to complex problems.
- Has thorough knowledge of aircraft mechanical component troubleshooting, repair procedures, and replacement of parts; broad knowledge of aircraft sheet metal/structural modifications and repair; basic knowledge of electrical theory; knows aircraft unique tools such as test equipment, torque wrenches, dial indicators, micrometers, sheet metal brakes and sheers.
- Requires working knowledge of technical publications; receives technical guidance as needed; may lead teams on more complex aircraft tasks and may record entries in aircraft logs and records.
- Must prioritize workloads and lead teams through complex tasks; may inspect Mechanics I and II.
- Provides input to Maintenance Engineering Changes (MEC), Estimated Cost of Damage preparation (ECOD), and recommends changes to Maintenance Work Orders (MWO).
- May specialize in sheet metal, electrical work, avionics, or other aircraft systems disciplines.
- May use HVLP spray guns and other corrosion‑control tools.
- Work is performed on and off aircraft as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience on the C‑130H/J variant aircraft.
- May be required to be licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration.
- CPR qualification is a preference.
- Trained on the proper use, inspection, and wear of personal protective clothing and equipment is required.
- Trained on the use of communication equipment is preferred.
- Familiarity with recognizing symptoms of overexposure to chemicals, solvents, and fuels.
- Must be a U.S. citizen.

Physical Requirements- Must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for periods throughout the day.
- Must climb stairs, ramps, ladders, and work stands with fall protection devices.
- Must crouch, crawl, grasp or handle objects, use finger dexterity, bend elbows/knees and reach above/below shoulders.
- May lift up to 50 pounds and carry for short distances.
- May read dials/gauges, identify small objects and hand tools.
- Must see imperfections, micrometer readings and other small scales.
- Must communicate by voice and detect sound by ear.
- Must distinguish color and judge three‑dimensional depth.
- May operate power vehicles, machinery, hand tools, ground support equipment, forklift, APU, etc.
- Expected to work in high heat or extreme cold temperatures for extended periods.
- May operate in austere CONUS and OCONUS locations.
- May wear a full‑face or forced‑air respirator.
- May work in confined spaces.
