Job Summary

The PACU RN Manager collaborates with the Perioperative Director to create a shared vision for continuous quality improvement in patient care. The role leads planning, organization, coaching, and facilitation of intraoperative department functions and staff to assure quality service on a 24‑hour basis. The Manager supports JCAHO standards, compliance with policies, supply and equipment management, teamwork with physicians and other providers, internal and external customer satisfaction, and resource management.

The position has direct‑line responsibility for day‑to‑day operations and overall responsibility for the PACU department, ensuring effective management, good communication, and appropriate discipline. The Manager evaluates nursing care and related activities and may supervise students as directed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain current knowledge of health care trends as well as nursing and surgical practice.
  • Manage and support supervisors and charge RNs to ensure quality of work.
  • Keep the Administrative Director informed of any unusual concerns, situations or conditions relative to patients and medical staff.
  • Keep and maintain all records of safety surveys within the department.
  • Evaluate and recommend purchase of capital equipment.
  • Recognize/develop new services or processes to present to Division Director as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with others in planning patient care.
  • Respond promptly and accurately to meet patients’ needs.
  • In conjunction with other members of the health‑care team, plan for discharge.
  • Recognize patients’ needs to assert independence and reluctance to express dependency and anxiety about hospitalization.
  • Adhere to aseptic technique.
  • Administer medication safely and accurately using the "5 rights".
  • Provide patient / family education as per department and hospital policy and procedure.
  • Assist with patient / family / significant other’ learning needs, abilities and readiness to learn; identify barriers to learning such as language or culture and integrate this information into the plan of care.
