Surgical Tech, Medical Assistant
The Certified Surgical Tech supports providers by delivering high-quality patient care and ensuring smooth clinical operations in both surgical and clinical environments. This role involves direct patient interaction, assisting with procedures in the clinic and during surgeries at hospitals or ambulatory surgery centers, managing clinical documentation, and coordinating durable medical equipment (DME) services. The ideal candidate demonstrates strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient-centered care in a fast-paced setting.
Key Responsibilities- Assist physicians in clinics
- Triage patients:
Update medication list and allergies with patient each visit, order x-rays - Prepare injections, know how to use US machine
- Casting/splinting- if applicable
- Verify Authorization is in EMR for DME dispensing and fitting
- Surgical Instruments to be cleaned and put away out of the sink each clinic
- Import outside films, x-rays and CD’s- change to provider name, our MR#, First letter capitalized of first & last name- must change if all caps.
- Train New Hires
- Assist surgeon with surgical procedures
- Make sure all implants/special equipment are available- tech call the rep
- Complete post-op calls and document in EMR
- Call the surgical reps the day before procedure to confirm times and instrumentation needed.
- Must take call on week their assigned provider is on call-or coordinate with supervisor if not available.
Skills & Qualifications
- Possesses strong initiative to get daily work finished and processed.
- Complete all work/projects assigned to you in a timely manner or by its deadline.
- Has ability to communicate effectively with patients, physicians, and other staff members.
- Participates in the Quality Improvement process and activities including the areas of Safety, EMR, Patient Satisfaction, Physician Satisfaction, and OSHA Compliance.
- Maintains confidentiality while following all HIPAA Guidelines.
- Strong communication and EMR Skills
- Must have maintain current Florida Surgical First Assist Certification, and Nationwide Accreditation, CST or on the job training
- BLS CPR certification.
- One year of work experience assisting a physician in surgery or completion of accredited
- EMR Athena preferred. Basic level of data entry and typing skills.
- Maintain required CEU credits for current licensure.
- Transportation to travel between offices;
Adapt to Last minute schedule changes
Physical Requirements
- Sitting, standing and walking for a considerable amount of time
- Extensive pulling, pushing, bending and lifting greater than 50 pounds
- Travel to satellite offices
- May need to come in early or stay late if provider has busy clinic
