FORT VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY (FVSU), a state and land-grant institution of the University System of Georgia, invites applications for the position of Adjunct Instructor
- Theatre and Performance Studies.

Job Summary

The Department of Arts & Communications is now accepting applications for a pool of open rank, part‑time and limited‑term faculty positions in the Theatre and Performance Studies concentration in the Visual and Performing Arts program for the  academic year. These positions are on an as needed, semester‑by‑semester basis. Rank is determined at the time of hiring and will be commensurate with credentials.

These positions are for work to be performed in the state of Georgia.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities
  • Teaching undergraduate courses in Theatre and/or Performance Studies (disciplines including acting, design, technology, history, theory, performance studies, or others as needed)
  • Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOC Faculty Credentials Guidelines.
  • Teach Intermediate Acting using established course outcomes and approved syllabus
  • Guide students in scene study, character analysis, and performance technique
  • Introduce and contextualize multiple acting methods
  • Emphasize professional rehearsal etiquette, emotional boundaries, and de‑roling practices
  • Provide constructive, timely feedback on student performances
  • Assess student learning through performances, written reflections, and participation
  • Maintain regular communication with the Department Chair regarding course progress
  • Submit grades and required documentation in accordance with university policies
Minimum Qualifications
  • A minimum of a Master’s degree, or the foreign equivalent, in Theatre/Performance Studies or a closely related discipline is required at the time of hire.
  • OR A minimum of a Master’s degree, or the foreign equivalent, in a non‑related discipline with 18 graduate credit hours in the teaching discipline is required at the time of hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Skills
  • Professional acting, directing, or dramaturgical experience
  • Experience working with diverse student populations
  • A minimum of two years collegiate and/or professional teaching experience, along with an established record of professional experience in the field.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated experience teaching or training actors at the collegiate or professional level
  • Knowledge of multiple acting methodologies
  • Commitment to ethical performance practices and student well‑being
