Position: Medical Technologist / Fort Smith

Overview

Medical Technologists provide information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease by conducting medical laboratory tests, procedures, and analyses with little or no supervision. The Medical Technologist’s job includes preparing samples for examination, using automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, performing numerous tests, and accurately interpreting results in a timely manner to enable clinicians to utilize the data when making treatment decisions.

The position requires multitasking, quick decision making, good judgement, and performance under pressure. May be called upon to be Tech in Charge.

Responsibilities

Provide information from laboratory tests to assist in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. Prepare samples for examination, operate automated equipment and specialized instrumentation, and perform multiple tests concurrently. Accurately interpret laboratory results in a timely manner to support treatment decisions. Demonstrate good judgement and maintain performance under pressure. May serve as Tech in Charge as needed.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology from an accredited institution. Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Physics, or Biology will be considered and are at the discretion of the hiring manager at the time of application or promotion.
  • Registry for Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP or equivalent) preferred; must be registry eligible.
  • Completes training in at least two rotations within the first six months of employment as required by the hospital.
  • Possess language, math, and reasoning skills to analyze, interpret, and draw valid conclusions during data collection and mechanical or scientific procedures.
  • Good communication skills with the public and other hospital staff.
  • Demonstrates the desired attitude and knowledge for other duties as assigned.
