Required Qualifications

  • One year of recent experience as an Interventional Radiology Technologist
  • Valid ARRT, or RCIS/RCES certification as required by state regulations
  • Current BLS certification (AHA/ARC)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Current ACLS certification (AHA/ARC)
  • Valid radiologic technologist license in compliance with state regulations
  • PALS (AHA/ARC) or ENPC certification
  • Any additional relevant certifications or licenses

Summary

The Interventional Radiology (IR) Technologist assists physicians with minimally invasive procedures using advanced imaging technology. Responsibilities include preparing patients and equipment, operating fluoroscopic and imaging modalities, maintaining sterile fields, monitoring vital signs, administering contrast media, ensuring radiation safety, and collaborating with the healthcare team in a fast‑paced environment.

Essential Work Functions

  • Prepare and position patients for IR procedures, ensuring comfort and safety.
  • Operate imaging equipment (fluoroscopy, CT, ultrasound) to guide procedures.
  • Assist physicians by scrubbing in, passing instruments, and maintaining a sterile field.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs and procedural details.
  • Administer contrast media and monitor for adverse reactions.
  • Ensure appropriate radiation safety measures for patients, staff, and self.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot imaging equipment for procedural readiness.
  • Manage and restock procedural supplies.
  • Collaborate with radiologists, nurses, and other team members to provide seamless patient care.
  • Follow all infection control, safety, and regulatory protocols.
  • Provide patient education before, during, and after procedures.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support IR lab operations.
  • Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control guidelines, and regulatory standards.

Required Essential Skills

  • Critical thinking, service excellence, and strong interpersonal communication.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and use basic PC skills.
  • Physical stamina: must remain stationary, move equipment (50‑100 lbs), push, pull, and bend.
  • Interpersonal skills: work effectively with diverse personnel, presenting a positive attitude.
  • Technical/motor skills: fine manipulation, push/pull, and movement during procedures.
  • Mental resilience: handle frequent public contact and high‑pressure deadlines, working independently or under close supervision.
  • Sensory requirements: visual acuity and effective communication.
