JOB SUMMARY:
The Chemistry Professor is responsible for providing high-quality instruction in chemistry courses, including lecture and laboratory components, in accordance with institutional learning outcomes and departmental standards. The faculty member promotes student learning through effective teaching practices, curriculum development, academic assessment, and engagement in departmental and institutional service.
This position supports the college's mission by fostering student success, maintaining academic rigor, and contributing to a collaborative academic environment.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES:
* Prepare a syllabus for the lecture class and laboratories;
* Instruct the lecture class and laboratories with a minimum of thirty-six (36) semester hours annually;
* Grade all quizzes, tests, and written assignments; and enter grades in Canvas gradebook on a timely basis;
* Assign final grades;
* Maintain regularly scheduled office hours to meet with students;
* Develop and maintain course management through the college's Learning Management system;
* Participate in Department budget preparation and in course planning and development;
* Assist with Divisional projects and programs;
* Serve effectively on committees or work groups;
* Develop and/or implement strategies to support students' retention, persistence, and program completion is essential;
* Participating in grant writing individually and/or on a team;
* Complete all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS:
* Master's degree (M.S.) in Chemistry, with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in Chemistry required. Additional graduate work in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, physics, or a related area preferred;
* Proven knowledge of and preference for experience in teaching Introduction to Chemistry, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and the associated laboratories;
* Excellent communication skills - both verbal and written;
* Ability to work with and teach to diverse populations is essential;
* Ability to apply traditional and innovative technologies is essential;
