Summary

A Design Drafter - Programmer will work with Design, Sales, and CNC Router and Sheet Laser Operators during the development and maintenance of routed and laser cut parts manufactured at the Southern Fulfillment Center. This position is responsible for designing and drafting 2D and 3D part drawings for custom routed and/or laser cut signs and panels. Process product change requests, maintain installation sheet revisions and shop drawing revisions.

They will assist in all other design-drafting functions when deemed necessary.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Designing and drafting 2D and 3D parts.
  • Programming routed HDPE parts utilizing Sigma Nest and Part Works CAD/CAM program for CNC routing and 3D V-Carving and engraving.
  • Design and process custom routed HDPE panels and signs working closely with Sales and Customer Service.
  • Programming for Sheet Bed Laser, by providing digital files (.DXF) to manufacturing machine setup.
  • Complete Product Change Requests (PCR) and Quality Deviation Reports (QDR) for all routed parts and custom laser cut steel panels and signs.
  • Must be able to understand and convey scale and perspective of designs in conceptual drawings, sketching, 3D modeling, Photoshop work, etc.
  • Build prototypes and study models when necessary to gain a sense of scale.
  • Must be able to work and meet deadlines and work well under the pressure of a fast paced environment.
  • Must have a knowledge of materials and methods of manufacturing.
  • Other duties may be assigned by Manager or Supervisor.

    Education and/or Experience
    • Associates Degree in Drafting and Design and/or 5 years relevant work experience required.
    • Must have a strong working knowledge of materials and methods of manufacturing. Experience with sheet metal, pipe, routed HDPE and rotationally molded plastic is a plus.
    • Must have strong mathematical and numerical skills.
    • Continuous training in CNC machines and programming.
    Travel

    Travel may be required up to 10%.

    Language Skills

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence as well as be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

    Reasoning Ability

    Must have the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

    Computer Skills

    To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in Auto Desk Inventor and Auto Cad for design work, concept and production modeling. Must be knowledgeable in CNC programs such as Part Worx and Amada Dr. ABE Blank.

    Other Skills

    Must be eager and willing to quickly learn, operate and apply new software to improve quality and production efficiency.
