Construction Laborer role at Trans Core (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, hiring two Construction Laborers to join the ITS team in Fort Myers, FL.
Summary
This position will perform underground utility construction to include conduit and fiber optic cable installation, concrete work along a horizontal plane (“flatwork”), and other general services as needed. Candidates must be able to travel out of town for short periods of time and work nights as needed.
Job Duties
- Install equipment including cameras, detectors, controller cabinets.
- Install electrical conductor, data conductor, fiber optic cable, pull boxes, conduit, poles, and foundations.
- Perform conduit and fiber optic cable installation and concrete work along a horizontal plane (“flatwork”).
- Connect conductors to equipment to make equipment work correctly.
- Prepare logs to keep track of field conditions and installation activities.
- Complete paperwork accurately and in a timely manner.
- Complete reports, logs, and perform shift‑to‑shift communications in accordance with established policies, procedures, and local practices.
- Other general labor services as needed.
Requirements
- Must complete and pass a Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) background check and/or SLERS as required by the project.
- Must have the ability to travel out of town for short periods of time, and work nights as needed.
- Must be able to lift 100 lb bags of concrete for mixing.
- Must be able to work at heights from 50 ft or more from an aerial lift, bucket truck or crane basket.
- Must be able to work outdoors in the heat for extended periods of time.
- Ability to dig trench with shovel or mini‑X, use basic hand tools and basic battery‑operated tools.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- A valid driver’s license and safe driving record.
Preferred
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- CDL A license, Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) certified.
- General computer skills and knowledge.
Physical and Environmental Demands
This role requires the ability to read and understand safety procedures, operating manuals, and written instructions, as well as to write routine reports and communicate effectively with teams and customers. Basic math skills are needed, including calculations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, percentages, and interpreting simple data visuals. Employees must be able to follow detailed instructions and apply sound judgment to resolve routine issues.
Work may involve regular physical activity such as standing for extended periods, walking, climbing ladders or scaffolds, and lifting up to 50 lb regularly, up to 100 lb frequently, and occasionally more than 100 lb. Work may occur in varied environments including dusty, dirty, hot, wet, or confined spaces such as ditches or elevated areas. Vision requirements include depth perception, color recognition, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employees may be exposed to outdoor weather, moving mechanical parts, airborne particles, electrical hazards, and traffic, with occasional work se levels are typically loud. Travel to job sites may be required, sometimes up to 100 miles or more from the home office, using a company vehicle.
