Job Summary

Seeking a Water Resources Technician or Scientist with demonstrated professional experience in performing surface water, groundwater, and sediment/soil sampling with the ability to work and perform tasks independently. This position will require primarily fieldwork with occasional office work. Fieldwork will be done locally within south and southwest Florida. The position will be based in the Fort Myers Office. No overnight travel anticipated.

Responsibilities As a Water Resources Technician/Scientist
  • Working with water level indicators and data logging pressure transducers and troubleshooting.
  • Fieldwork in a variety of inclement weather conditions including rain, heat, and humidity. Work sites may include construction zones, wetlands, lakes, and natural areas with wildlife (bees, snakes, alligators, etc.).
  • Review and develop schedules for data collection to meet project requirements.
  • Communicate directly with laboratories to coordinate laboratory analysis and bottle orders, per project‑specific requirements.
  • Collect surface water, ground water, and sediment/soil samples per standard operating procedures.
  • Execute and maintain organized sampling forms, field notes, and project documents.
  • Record flowmeter totalizers and calculate monthly surface water/groundwater use.
  • Download and plot water level and rainfall data from data logging pressure transducers and rain gauges.
  • Collect and test for chloride concentrations in surface water and groundwater wells.
  • Assist project manager with preparing monitoring reports and deliverables, as needed.
  • Regularly prepare tables and manage data in Microsoft Excel for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Report digital data to water management districts via online permitting portals.
  • Assist water quality team members with field data and sample collection.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in environmental sciences, geology, hydrogeology, or earth science‑related field. Education may be substituted for professionally related experience.
  • 1-2 years of prior consulting, regulatory, and/or professionally related experience.
  • Willingness to perform field work throughout the year.
  • Experience with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Experience developing data tables and graphs to organize and present datasets.
  • Strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to manage time, budget, and deadlines for multiple projects/project managers.
  • Experience reviewing regulatory requirements/guidelines related to surface water, groundwater, and sediment/soil sampling procedures.
  • Experience using and calibrating multi‑parameter field instruments for water quality sampling.
  • Experience interpreting aerial photographs and site plans.
  • Experience reviewing analytical laboratory reports and validating results.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and effectively communicate with co-workers and different project managers.
  • A valid Florida driver’s license and an excellent driving record.
  • Required to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States, sponsorship not available now or in the future.
