Play a key role in shaping how the world sees Southwest Florida. In this position, you’ll lead public relations and communications efforts that promote Lee County as a premier travel destination. You’ll manage media relations, create compelling content, share the value of tourism to local residents, and ensure our brand message is clear, consistent, and engaging across all channels.

What You Will DoPublic Relations & Media Strategy- Develop and manage public relations strategies that align with VCB goals.
- Build strong relationships with local, national, and international media.
- Create targeted media pitches and editorial submissions to generate high-profile coverage.
- Write and edit press releases, speeches, newsletters, video scripts, and other materials.
- Ensure brand messaging is consistent with all marketing and sales projects.
- Oversee film office inquiries and location permits for photo and video shoots.
- Develop resource materials such as production guides and location information.
- Oversee budget for media visits, negotiate services, and approve expenses.
- Manage agency partners, contractors, and staff to deliver successful earned media.
- Collaborate with the marketing team using social media and digital platforms to share our message and connect with audiences.
- Stay current with trends and adapt strategies as needed.
- Mentor team members and serve as a role model within the organization and community.
- Work closely with VCB colleagues, hospitality partners, and industry stakeholders.
- Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism, or related field.
- 2 years of experience in public relations or communications (tourism experience preferred).
- Supervisory experience.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
- 7+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, or marketing leadership.
- Proven ability to develop and execute integrated communications strategies.
- Exceptional writing, storytelling, and presentation skills.
- Expertise in media relations, crisis communications, and digital PR.
- Strong leadership skills with experience managing teams and agencies.
- Ability to navigate public-sector environments and stakeholder dynamics with diplomacy.
- Data-driven approach to measuring impact and refining strategies.
- Excellent writing and editing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Outstanding presentation and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of social media and digital platforms.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Muck Rack and Simpleview preferred.
- Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed.
- Speaking German, Spanish, or another language is a plus.
Work Schedule:
Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM. Some evenings, weekends, and holidays will be required.
