Help Power Clinical Innovation Through AILee Health is expanding our Artificial Intelligence capabilities as part of our enterprise AI growth strategy. We are seeking a Data Scientist / Machine Learning Engineer who will play a critical role in developing AI-driven solutions that directly support clinical end users including physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and care teams.
This is a newly created role with a strong focus on translating advanced analytics into practical, scalable tools that improve clinical decision-making, patient safety, quality outcomes, and operational efficiency.
Position SummaryThe Data Scientist / ML Engineer collaborates closely with clinical stakeholders, operational leaders, and IT teams to solve real-world healthcare challenges using advanced data science and machine learning techniques.
This role goes beyond model development and ensures that AI solutions are:
- Clinically relevant
- Operationally feasible
- Seamlessly integrated into provider workflows
- Designed to enhance and not burden the end user experience
You will design scalable data architectures, build predictive and prescriptive models, and translate complex analytics into actionable tools that clinicians can trust and use effectively in patient care environments.
What You’ll Do Clinical-Focused AI & Machine Learning- Partner directly with physicians, nursing leaders, and clinical teams to understand workflow challenges and decision-support needs
- Develop predictive and prescriptive models to support:
- Clinical risk stratification
- Early detection and intervention strategies
- Quality improvement initiatives
- Patient safety enhancements
- Operational throughput and care coordination
- Apply advanced ML techniques including:
- GLM / regression
- Random forests, boosting, and trees
- Hierarchical clustering
- Text mining and NLP
- Deep learning (CNNs, RNNs)
- Graph and pattern analysis
- Ensure models are designed for real-world clinical adoption
- Collaborate with Epic and enterprise application teams to embed analytics into clinical systems
- Validate model performance and usability in partnership with end users
- Translate model outputs into intuitive dashboards, alerts, and decision-support tools
- Design scalable data model architectures across multiple disparate systems
- Work with clinical and operational data sources (e.g., Epic and enterprise systems)
- Promote shared AI infrastructure and reusable solutions to prevent redundancy
- Ensure governance, performance optimization, and strategic alignment
- Present complex analytical findings to clinical audiences with varying levels of technical understanding
- Use storytelling and visualization techniques to build trust in AI solutions
- Support adoption efforts through education and collaboration
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, Statistics, or related scientific discipline required
- Master’s or PhD with specialization in Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence preferred
- Minimum 4 years of experience designing and managing complex data models across multiple systems
- Experience leading ML projects that support operational or clinical decision-making
- Strong background in statistical analysis and advanced model development
- Experience working with healthcare clinical data strongly preferred (e.g., Epic, Lawson)
- Experience applying formal Quality Management methodologies (Lean, Six Sigma, TQM) preferred
- Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, SAS, MATLAB, SPSS, Excel, and/or C++
- Knowledge of advanced statistical and data mining techniques
- Experience with deep learning and modern AI frameworks
- Strong understanding of generative AI and its future clinical applications
- Experience developing AI solutions that directly support clinicians
- Ability to bridge technical and clinical domains
- Strong interpersonal skills and comfort engaging with physician leadership
- Exceptional presentation and storytelling abilities
- Passion for responsible, ethical AI in healthcare
